Mom Meals with Dave’s Gourmet & Giveaway
Today I am writing with a hot tip for new parents, or anyone needing to rely on a little prepared food this winter. I am usually an advocate for making nearly everything from scratch but even I, someone who cooks for a living, know it isn’t always possible. While I like to make my own tomato sauce there is nothing wrong with picking up a jar or two of delicious sauce when I simply don’t have the time. When selecting my jarred sauces I always follow two important criteria: the sauce must be organic and can’t contain any funny sounding ingredients or preservatives. These are two of the reasons I love Dave’s Gourmet and was thrilled when they reached out to me about trying some of their delicious pasta sauces.
With baby on the way there was really no better time for me to give their sauces a fair shot. Despite being completely depleted of energy didn’t mean I wasn’t interested in good food at all – I just didn’t have the energy to cook completely from scratch! Dave’s sent me a great variety pack of their organic sauces including Butternut Squash, Roasted Garlic & Sweet Basil, Red Heirloom, and Wild Mushroom. Armed with these jars I knew I would be good for several meals and could even keep a few in the cupboard for later this winter when I really need them!
Since my family and I adore anything with butternut squash it was the first sauce we tried. We decided on a simple preparation of Cavatelli with Dave’s Gourmet Organic Butternut Squash Pasta Sauce and Pancetta. We felt that the sweet sauce would do well with a salty accompaniment like pancetta. Bacon, tempeh, or salted cubes of tofu would also work nicely. While I’ve made plenty of butternut squash sauce from scratch I have to admit, opening a jar and heating it slowly on the stovetop was a welcome relief. There was no squash roasting or pureeing involved. I just combined the heated sauce, cooked pasta, and freshly fried pancetta and our dinner was served.
The next jar of sauce we decided to try was the Red Heirloom. I have been dying to try making ravioli lasagna and since my daughter was game we decided to give it a go. We also had her friend over for dinner so it was kind of a little kid dinner party! Again, instead of having to make my marinara – which is fairly simple to do – this time I just poured our Dave’s Gourmet Organic Red Heirloom Sauce over the lasagna and pushed the pan straight into the oven to bubble and bake. Easy-peasy! (And, trust me, I was doing this at forty weeks pregnant, so easy-peasy was the only option!)
Since the ease and natural flavors of Dave’s Gourmet completely won us over we decided to wait to use the Roasted Garlic & Sweet Basil, and Wild Mushroom until later this winter when I am really in a bind. The infant fog is bound to take its toll at some point and knowing these jars of delicious organic sauce are in my cupboard will honestly save the day at least twice – if not more!
Today Dave’s Gourmet has generously offered to give away the same selection of sauces they sent me! To enter to win:

Butternut Squash with just pasta, squash and blue cheese or Wild Mushroom in skillet lasagna! Ooooh yum 🙂
YUM, oh yum. Like you, I rarely buy jarred sauce – it’s too simple to make at home. However, sometimes a girl just needs some help. My older son has started a lot of after school activities, and since I work full time, it is difficult to always address the dinner situation without a little help. I am intrigued by the butternut squash sauce – especially like how you did with pancetta. Yum. I think I would try their roasted garlic & sweet basil sauce with the teff triangles (make teff, let set in baking pan, slice into triangles.) Could do the same with polenta. YUM YUMMMMMM. Did I say “Yum” enough? I’m hungry. Anyway, I liked Dave’s on FB as well so I can keep up with them…

Love butternut squash! I think I might try it in a lasagne.
We too are BIG fans of everything butternut squash, so I would like to try that one. I also have seen these ravioli lasagnas and have been wanting to try one. I think the butternut squash and ricotta ravioli would be sooooooo good! Fingers crossed, this has my mouth watering.
The sauce I would love to try first would be the wild mushroom. I think it would be great in chicken cacciatore recipe.

Would love to try the butternut squash with a simple ravioli and fresh sage (maybe add in some sausage)… or even just how you served it with pancetta. Sounds amazing. Have checked out Dave’s FB page and liked them.
Your take on the two so far sound divine. I’d like to use the Wild Mushroom sauce with some pancetta over fresh linguine topped with shaved parmesan OR serve it over grilled chicken, sauteed vegetables (broccoli, red pepper, red onion) and wild rice – maybe hit it with shot of wine as an extra punch
