Eating on the Road: The ArtCliff Food Truck
At the end of July I snuck out to Martha’s Vineyard for two nights to visit my in-laws. There are so many great things to do on the island but we didn’t have a lot of time. One of the things we made a priority this year was a visit to the ArtCliff Food Truck. The ArtCliff Diner is an institution on Martha’s Vineyard. It has been there since the beginning of time and serves the best food ever. Okay, not quite the beginning of time, but it has been there since I remember. Since it isn’t open for dinner a few years ago it started the food truck to serve up a few popular diner-like eats with a smile.
This is the first food truck I have visited during my year as a Sargento flavor correspondant that doesn’t specialize in one single cuisine. Instead, it has a very small menu that changes nightly depending on the whim of the chef. Since it is on Martha’s Vineyard you had better believe there are a few seafood dishes to be had, but there is also plenty of other stuff like steak sandwiches, hamburgers, falafel, cashew noodles and some great side dishes like garlic fries and baked beans. Essentially, it is like the specials menu at a restaurant, only there are no regular dishes.
Since our eyes were bigger than our stomachs on this particular trip we went way overboard with our order: Lobster Tacos, Steak Sandwich, Cheeseburger, Grilled Cheese, two orders of Garlic Fries, and Nutella Donuts with Raspberries. Holy moly, the portions were huge and the food was amazing. (Especially the donuts!!) I’ll admit, I’ve gotten use to my specialty trucks so I was a little worried this guys might have some trouble turning out such a variety of food so quickly. The truck is so small I am not quite sure where they kept all the ingredients!
However, my worries were quickly pushed aside when I discovered that my lobster tacos were made from real fresh lobster meat, the burgers were hand shaped and never frozen, and the garlic fries and donuts were fried fresh – for better, or worse – on the spot. Even the raspberries were giant and juicy!
While there are many things to do on Martha’s Vineyard when you visit this food truck is definitely worth a visit. You can find it in The ArtCliff Diner parking lot most evenings, though they sometimes are gone for private events. Enjoy!
