National Can-it-Forward Day + Ball Jar Giveaway
I’ve been canning up a storm in Cooperstown this month with my Dad. As I’ve outlined before, we love canning fruits and vegetables each summer. It is a time for us to bond, plus we get to reap the rewards all winter long. I also give a lot of the preserves we make away for holiday gifts. I am excited to work with my friends at Ball Jar for the second year in a row to celebrate International Can-It-Forward Day. It is coming up this Saturday August 16th and you don’t want to miss it if you are a canning enthusiastic, or a novice who is eager to learn.
To participate in the festivities check out this great roster of events. There are so many things to check out! I can’t wait to see the mosaic once it is finished.
This year Ball Jar has come out with some interesting products that are key for preserving herbs. They are perfect for me because I spend all summer growing herbs and am constantly cutting them to keep in the kitchen while I cook. I also love to make a variety of pestos and freeze them for winter. I am so glad to finally have products that make it easy to take care of and store herbs.
To get you excited for some summer canning and National Can-it-Forward Day Ball Jar has generously provided a gift package for one lucky reader to includes:
2 cases Limited Edition Spring Green Heritage Greens
Fresh Herb Keeper
Dry Herb Jars
Frozen Herb Starters
5 Blade Herb Scissors

How great is this package! To enter to win:

Love to use fresh dill in summer salads fresh from the arden.
We love cilantro.
I love chives. Growing up we had a chive plant just out our back door and we’d snip some to add to scrambled eggs. I love having my own chive plant so I can recreate that memory and share it with my son.
BASIL – we use it fresh and I freeze many meals of pesto! I plant a 14 foot row of it int he garden so I have plenty to share!
fresh mint snipped right off the plant. we put it in lemonade, we put it in herbal iced tea, we let the dog have a leaf, we put it on desserts, and mojitos of course!
My favorite herbs to use when cooking in the summer are cilantro, basil and mint! Love, love, love. Just got a brand new 23qt Pressure Canner and can’t wait to use it this weekend on some fresh corn!!
Basil! we have it growing everywhere 🙂
I love having fresh parsley (and I have a huge patch). I use it in almost everything and also you can just eat some to make your breath smell nice.
