Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
I am so happy to be back in this space I love so much and today I’m delivering an old family favorite, Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies. These are listed on my age-old, yet still popular, 10 Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies List. In fact, I think I need to brush up that post with a few updates and additions! I’ll save that for another time.
One of my struggles for the past year or so has been balance of all kinds. My kids are wonderful and ACTIVE, and our schedule is quite busy between work and sports. How do I balance their meals to fortify them for their daily energy burn? How much time do I leave for myself when they are at school and I have lots of work to do? When do I say when and order take-out? How much is too much/too little? I love to make our life as homemade as possible, but it’s impossible to do it all perfectly all the time. I’m pretty sure nobody has mastered that and that’s okay!
Once I learned to surrender to letting the chips fall where they may on a daily basis – some days/weeks are just smoother than others – I let go of perfection and began to find balance again. I started to set aside to time for myself no matter how busy I was and just chill. I started meditating, I even rediscovered some of my old favorite hobbies. And, you know what, sometimes the cookies come from Trader Joe’s and sometimes they are homemade…that’s just the way it is!
These cookies are oldies-but-goodies from a cookbook I once worked on, Park Avenue Potluck, and I still bake them a lot. My whole family loves them. They have crispy edges with a slightly crumbly interior, notes of caramel and bits of chocolate, and a lovely toasted oatmeal flavor. I also admire the deep brown color they take on when they bake, and the addition of cinnamon is totally brilliant. They are everything a cookie should be and we hope you like them as much as we do!

- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/3 cup regular oatmeal
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl. Then add the vanilla extract and a large egg and mix well.
- In a small bowl mix the flour, soda, and cinnamon. Then add it to the wet ingredients and incorporate completely until smooth. Fold in the chocolate chips and oatmeal.
- Drop the batter in tablespoon-sized lumps onto a baking sheet about 2-inches apart. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until a deep golden brown. Remove from the cookie sheet to cool slightly, then enjoy while still warm!
