Can-It-Forward Day 2016 + Giveaway
One of my favorite food events of summer is Can-it-Forward day. I’ve had the pleasure of celebrating it for the past four years, each time showcasing some new cool Ball jars. This year their new jar is a gorgeous wide mouth jar in a beautiful shade of turquoise blue. They’d be perfect for pickles or beets or tomatoes!
This year I also get to share a great revised canning book they just released, The All New Ball Book of Canning and Preserving. It is beautifully photographed with gorgeous images of preserves and all kinds of things you can cook with them. Over 200 of the recipes are new, and it is still chock full of information about all things preserving and then some.
On Friday, July 22nd, the Ball brand will host this year’s sixth annual Can-It-Forward Day! A day to celebrate the joys of fresh preserving, and encourage both new and veteran canners to preserve more, they’ve planned for a truly unique experience for 2016 with a real emphasis on “canning it forward.” This year, they’re hosting Can-It-Forward Day entirely online via Facebook Live. Throughout the day, the Ball brand and their expert ambassadors will be demoing a variety of canning recipes and in the true spirit of “canning it forward,” for every engagement received on the videos, whether it be a comment, like or share, the brand donate $1 to a local charity.
It is going to be a great day and we all hope you’ll join the fun. Here is the page where YOU can take the pledge to Can-it-Forward!

We always had shelves full of peaches and pickles. I would like to do pizza sauce.
I’d like to try canning stewed tomatoes.
My favorite thing to can is applesauce. I love opening a jar anytime of the year for a sweet side dish or for baking a loaf of spicy applesauce bread.

For me, it’s all about apples! I go a little crazy when the trees around the property and the neighborhood are full of beautiful apples of who-knows-what varieties, and I can applesauce, apple butter, apple jelly, and spiced apples.
