The Food52 Cookbook! {Naptime Everyday}
Over the weekend I spent a long time reviewing the new Food52 cookbook that I just received in the mail last month. As you may recall, Food52 is a website that hosts weekly themed recipe contests and compiles the winners into a series of the cookbooks. This is the first cookbook in their series and I have three (3!) recipes in it. I was so excited to win these contests and it is absolutely awesome to see them in print. Of course, I follow the website closely and a lot of my friends and fellow food bloggers also have awesome recipes in the book. I highly recommend checking out Cara’s Secret Ingredient Beef Stew, Veronica’s Secret Cookies. If you don’t know the site, don’t worry, this cookbook stands on its own and is great to cook from. A vast majority of the recipes lend themselves perfectly to naptime cooking and entertaining. There are even several short and quick dishes that would be perfect powernap recipes!
Here are a few of the things I love about this book:
Organization: It is organized in sequence of the contests which were seasonal so the recipes take you straight from summer through to fall, winter and spring page by page.
Photography: I am a huge fan of Sarah Shatz’s amazing food photography. Each photo is simply composed with minimal fuss and garnish. The clean lines and subtle styling make the food look like it is ready to whisked off to the table the minute the photo shoot ends. (I suspect this is, in fact, the case.)
Variety: One of the things I’ve always loved about Food52 is the variety of voices and sense of community. Each recipe not only comes with a headnote, it also comes with some of the comments that were left on the recipe by readers and a short bio on the recipe contributor. This helps the community of the website show through and highlights the terrific variety of food between the pages.
I’ve purchased several copies to give as Christmas gifts. If you want your own copy be sure to pick up a copy here!
Congratulations to the entire Food52 community on this great book!
I love pictures, who doesn’t? It’s nice to know what your baking is supposed to look like! A cookbook with several contributors also gives variety between each recipe. Great Christmas gift idea!
You know, I was surprised at how happy I felt when I got my copy and begin leafing through it. They really did a wonderful job. I felt awfully glad to have a recipe in there…
