Every year or so I do a huge ice cream celebration. In fact, way back in 2009, the first summer of this blog, I did a new ice cream recipe every week all summer!! This year I’m back with a fun new ice cream week and a round-up of my favorite ice cream gear. All week I’ll be focusing on ice cream and including a few new recipes everyone will love. To kick things off, here are my favorite tools for making luscious, silky ice cream at home. I swear, it is so easy and soooo naptime-friendly!

I love ice cream. It’s hard to pick a favorite but I have to say vanilla is it. I know other people think it’s boring but it is the most versatile for toppings and even by itself never disappoints.

Bump cake!! A northern favorite
When it comes to store-bought products that are at least as easy to make at home (often much better, too!), I’m a huge fan of green tea ice cream. I had an Italian grand-aunt who was a mistress of anything gelato, so I’m woefully lacking in ice cream making skills.
My favorite flavor of ice cream up-to-date is olive oil gelato, that is served on the dessert menu at restaurant Cafe Juanita in Kirkland, WA, just north of Seattle. It’s such an unexpected flavor, that you’ll curiously try it, and then end up loving it. Sort of like another typical Mediterranean “oddity”, olive oil cake.

A really good natural vanilla bean is hard to beat. Then I can top with my own choice of nuts or fresh summer fruit, like strawberries or grilled peaches!
