Summer Favorites 2012 & The News {Naptime Simple Tips}

Tomatoes

I’ve been bursting to tell you all the most exciting news!! I’ll admit, I’m actually slightly amazed that none of you have guessed it out loud already. Either that, or you are all way too polite to say anything. I was nearly certain when I wrote about homemade ginger ale someone would call me out on how ginger combats queasiness, or at least how Twix Ice Cream Pie sounds like the perfect meal for someone craving excessive amounts of sweets. I mean – what kind of condition would lead me to post such things in quick succession while avoiding normal everyday meals completely?

You guessed it – another napper is on the way! We are thrilled and, no, the baby is not some kind of clever career move on my part. We’ve just always wanted two kids and the timing finely seemed right. Our daughter is beyond excited to be a big sister and is already making lists of the things she plans to teach the baby. Currently at the top of this list is crawling, swimming, and tennis. All essential baby skills as far as she can see.

I know I’ve been a little quieter than usual on Facebook and I apologize. It is safe to assume that most afternoons I didn’t post I was passed out on the sofa or gingerly swallowing soft boiled eggs. Don’t get me wrong, my appetite has been strong, but I’ve also had strange days with no appetite at all. That is just how it goes I guess. So far the baby book reads something like this:

First Trimester Milestones:

Absent-Minded Kelsey: Left garage door open and keys in front door all night long. Twice. Filled dishwasher with liquid dish soap instead of dishwashing fluid and flooded the entire kitchen floor with bubbles. Am eternally grateful to the repairman for not charging me when I realized my mistake. Left daughter’s backpack at school. Twice. Actually got a post-it note from my husband not to forget our daughter anywhere during the day. (For the record that never happened.)

Appetite: Subsisted on soft boiled eggs for nearly four days straight in June. Drank at least two pitchers of homemade ginger ale over the course of two days in July. Ate nearly an entire Twix Ice Cream Pie in one sitting. Routinely crave avocados, avocado toast, guacamole, stuffed avocados, avocados in salad, avocados with harissa, harissa olive oil on salad, corn with harissa, anything with harissa, pickled jalapenos, guacamole with extra jalapenos, grilled cheese with – you guessed it – jalapenos. Can’t stomach yogurt.

Lifestyle: Exercising regularly except for when I am passed out. Cooking simple, delicious meals during naptime or camp time. Making sure meals can been cooked on the shorter side so I have plenty of time to pass out. Discussing reproduction and birth in preschooler terms on a regular basis. Then passing out.

Obviously there is lots, lots more to come about our next napper and all the comes with pregnancy, infants, babies, toddlers, etc. It is like I could start the blog all over again. But I won’t! Instead, I will keep it real with the day of day of my life adjusting to cooking with TWO kids and still managing to enjoy time in the kitchen. (I also promise not to inundate you with too much harissa and/or jalapeno based recipes!)

In other news here are some summer favorites:

– A cool bathroom makeover (pregnant woman admire these kinds of things)

– My newest favorite stylish blog that is pure fun

– A pretty garden party

– Phoebe is better than ever!

– I can’t wait to resume things like this post-baby

– So happy for Megan!
