A Night of a Thousand Cookies with Dorie Greenspan & OXO
Last week I had the pleasure of attending an event to kick-off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month at OXO in New York City. The evening featured the fantastically talented, and one of my most favorite food writers, Dorie Greenspan. She is working with OXO and Gretchen Witt to raise awareness for the Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a charity I love and have written about before. So, basically this event combined three of my favorite things: Dorie + Cookies for Kids’ Cancer + OXO. It was a total win.
One of the many highlights of the event was Dorie’s baking demonstration. She made two of her most well known cookies and shared lots of little tips to get them just right every time. For example, when making slice and bake cookies use a paper towel roll to get the dough perfectly round. I can’t wait to try that! She told us the best way to chill dough, scoop cookies, and frost them to perfection. We lucked out with a lot of samples and they were pretty much the most amazing things I’ve ever eaten.
In addition to the baking demo OXO arranged for us to try out some of their newest products. This new dusting wand for dusting cookies and brownies is genius. No more dusting the whole counter with my giant sifter of confectioners’ sugar!
I have been searching for a good cookie press and I think I may have finally found one. Even better, it comes with plates for fall and spring so you can use the press for more than just Christmas cookies. Smart.
My daughter will be game for these great icing containers. They make it a cinch to decorate cookies and are the perfect way for small hands have loads of fun without the mess.
The galley of Dorie’s next book, Baking Chez Moi, was sitting on the table the whole night. I flipped through it briefly and it is absolutely stunning. It took ALL of my willpower not to stuff it in my bag and high tail it out of there… I am counting the days until October 28th.
For my final act of the night I got a tattoo. Not a real one, of course. But I love the way it reminds me to be a good cookie every single day. If you want to participate in a Cookies for Kids’ Cancer sale check out their website and join the fun for a good cause!
OMIGOD! Jealous!!!!!! Looks like it was an awesome learning experience (and there were cookies, too: score!)
Hi! I know, right? I was pinching myself the whole night. And, yes, the cookies were awesome!
