Day 1: OXO Cookies for Kids’ Cancer & OXO Baking Giveaway {Naptime Chef Cooking Show}
Today I am thrilled to kick-off my holiday gift week chatting about one of my favorite causes, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. I know cancer isn’t necessarily a fun topic, but making cookies and selling them to support pediatric cancer research is definitely a fun thing to do. For me there are fewer things that feel better or more worthwhile than putting my baking skills to good use during the holiday season. This month I have joined several of my food blogging buddies to create and promote a great Holiday Recipe Video series featuring our favorite holiday cookies to support Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. I’ll admit, I am feeling rather large these days and didn’t necessarily want to film myself, but I’ll do anything for this organization. (Don’t worry, I plan to bring back The Naptime Chef Cooking Show this spring post-baby – most likely to make lighter food as I lose the baby weight!)
I hope you’ll take the time to support Cookies for Kids’ Cancer this holiday season. There are many things you can do to show your support. You could host a bake sale, set up a giving page, or even order cookies from their website and send them to friends as a holiday gift that also gives back. How easy is that?!
Today on the cooking show I am making classic crescent cookies. There are one of my favorite holiday cookies. They taste like a more delicate version of the popular Pecan Snowball, and I love their pretty half moon shape. They would be great for a holiday bake sale or just for giving to friends. As you’ll see here, I like to package them in tins with festive holiday paper before handing them out to friends and loved ones.
To cap off our Cookies for Kids’ Cancer Support today OXO is generously giving away one of their Baking Boss gift sets to one lucky winner. The set includes:
- Good Cookie Spatula
- Pop-up Cookbook Holder
- 11-inch Silicone Balloon Whisk
- 3-piece Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl Set
- 3-piece Silicone Spatula Set

Recipe
Classic Crescent Cookies
makes 3 dozen cookies
Ingredients
1 | cup finely ground walnuts |
2 | sticks unsalted butter |
2 ½ | cups all-purpose flour, sifted |
½ | cup confectioners’ sugar, plus more for dusting |
2 | teaspoons vanilla extract |
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
2. Place the walnuts and butter in the mixer and stir to incorporate. Then add in the flour, confectioners’ sugar, and vanilla extract and beat everything together, starting on low speed and increasing to high as the flour gets incorporated. Once the dough forms stop the mixer.
3. Pinch off pieces of dough and form them into balls about 1 ½-inches round. Then form them into little crescent shapes. Line them up on lined baking sheets about 1-inch apart.
4. Bake them for about 25 minutes, or until the bottoms are golden brown and the tops are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack. Once they are completely cool dust the cookies with confectioners’ sugar and serve.
